About My Sculptural Cast Paper
I love the feel and look of hand-made paper. The first time I saw a cast paper greeting card with its classically elegant stark-white bas-relief sculpture, I thought it was the most beautiful use of paper I had ever seen. I learned to make them, and now they are one of my favorite art forms. Here's how it's done:
I sculpt a bas-relief original in clay (no commercial moulds are ever used), then fire it. From the original I make a negative mould and fire that. A batch of wet cotton pulp is pressed into the negative mould and left to dry 24 hours. Once dry, if perfect, the cast is affixed to an acid-free card.
These casts are actually small works of art, and are wonderful framed.
